Arkham City – Journey from the Asylum to the City

This session focuses on the journey taken by the Rocksteady Studios art team to develop Batman: Arkham City, the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. From the concept stage to the production of the characters and the environments, Art Director David Hego explains the theory and practice behind the ‘Arkhamverse.’

Hego presents how the creation of a world filled with iconic Batman history, the tips and tricks in visual narration, the hyper real treatment of the characters and the lighting of the city streets contributed to the building of the highly detailed, yet expansive open world of Batman: Arkham City.

About David Hego

David Hego has been working in the video game industry for 18 years. After studying computer arts at SupInfoCom in the early nineties, David moved into the video game industry at a time when 3D pre-rendered games on CD-rom were blossoming.   Through his career David worked consecutively as a cinematic, environment and  VFX artist on games such as Dragon Lore, Mission Impossible, Red Dog, Swat GST and Urban Chaos: Riot Response.  Five years ago, David moved to the position of art director, working on the games Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City.
