Tracking game stats – lots of them – has become critical for game developers in the era of online ubiquity. From leaderboards to stats-rich online user profiles to game analytics, games and gamers increasingly rely on data to increase engagement and entertainment, or just to provide fodder for small talk. But the task of tracking this data can be daunting for even the largest of publishers – especially at scale.
Learning Objectives
- Understand how to move from a one-size-fits-all, “SQL for everything” approach to an heterogeneous environment that considers the data needs of today’s game developer and publisher.
- Learn how to identify and address performance bottlenecks in a distributed, load-balanced, high-volume data-processing system for games and how to support such a system.
- Learn about major issues and “gotchas” in adopting NoSQL and how to avoid or mitigate such issues.
