The video gaming industry is currently undergoing a significant change in distribution methods and executives want to know the legal implications of such changes for their business. This session will offer insight into the numerous legal issues and obstacles associated with digital distribution of video games. It will shed light on specific privacy issues, as well as intellectual property issues arising from the digital distribution of video games, including licensing issues. Finally, this session will provide participants with practical examples of risks associated with digital distribution and will offer an overview of legal solutions to be implemented to minimize risks.

Maxime Gagné is a member of the Business Law Group of Heenan Blaikie LLP, a national Canadian law firm. Mr. Gagné focuses his practice on technology law, entertainment law and intellectual property. Mr. Gagné represents both multinational corporations and start-up companies primarily in the film, music, technology and new media industries. Mr. Gagné has a particular interest in legal issues related to the production and distribution of video games. In the technology field, Mr. Gagne represents and advises clients with respect to outsourcing agreements, software licensing, system integration, and computer services. In the entertainment field, Mr. Gagné represents producers, broadcasters and distributors with regard to every aspect of the development, production, licensing and distribution of film, video games, television and musical projects. Mr. Gagné is also a registered trademark agent in Canada and advises clients on matters related to intellectual property, particularly with respect to trade-marks, domain names, and copyrights. Mr. Gagné has a Master's degree in Entertainment Law from the University of Westminster in London, United Kingdom. Speaking experience : Mr. Gagné has made several presentations to business executives on a variety of topics related to intellectual property and technology law, including presentations on the protection of trade-marks, the legal issues arising from the management and enforcement of electronic signatures, as well as several presentations on the Canadian copyright law regime. Mr. Gagné has also presented a conference to the members of the Association des juristes pour l'avancement de la vie artist on the legal protection of fashion designs in Canada, the United States in the United Kingdom.
