From concept to market, Funcom has had many challenges to overcome in order to bring this highly anticipated MMO to the masses. From setting up and fully staffing a brand new studio in Montreal less than 18 months ago, to finding a publisher and establishing financing for the studio, this panel will explore all of these challenges and reveal how Funcom was able to overcome them all.
Robert Caouette is a Sector Advisor for the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector Team, part of the Business Development Group at Export Development Canada. Over the past 3 years, Rob has been focused on the New Media sub–sector, striving to better understand and support the unique financial challenges and gaps in the industry. He has been an innovative force in developing and expanding EDC’s New Media Sector Strategy aimed at supporting both Canadian Exporters as well as foreign buyers and investors in the industry. Miguel Caron has been the Chief Executive Officer of Funcom Games Canada Inc. at Funcom N.V. since January 7, 2010 and served as its Chief Executive Officer of embryonic studio in Montreal since January 2010. Mr. Caron served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Lyrtech Inc., of Innovator Electronic Manufacturing Services from April 22, 2003 to November 20, 2007. Mr. Caron was the Founder of NoWire Telecom Inc., and served as its Chief Executive Officer and President. He has extensive experience in sales, marketing and management in the electronics industry. He has an experience of more than 12 years managing businesses in the computer and electronics fields.
