ZBrush 4R2 Student Game Character Challenge

Date: Wednesday November 2, 2011

Venue: Fontaine room (Exposition Zone of the Hilton Bonaventure Hotel in Montreal)

Schedule: 1:30 to 5: 30 pm (Judging will take place after)

Participants: Max 20 students from D3D and design programs or conference participants in each competition.

Fee: 50$

Spectators: 1500 MIGS participants that will be going to the Expo Zone to register, eat, play, and meet with the exhibitors.

 

 

Workshop description:

Pixologic contest in participation with WACOM

Aim: 20 student contestants will be challenged to conceptualize, create and complete a gaming character, selected by the mentors.

The contestant will be encouraged to use the latest groundbreaking features of ZBrush 4R2 (DynaMesh, Curve Mode, New 3D Brushes and final render using Best Preview Render(BPR)), in a 4 hour live contest!

1:30 pm. Participants will be able to familiarize themselves with ZBrush 4R2 latest features and tools (WACOM tablet) used during the workshops with an introduction by Marco Plouffe (ZBrush challenge Mentor)

2 pm. The Mentor will explain the rules of the contest and the goal to achieve.

2:30 pm to 5:15 pm The Mentors, (Marco Plouffe, David Giraud and Cedric Séaut from THQ Montreal studio) will be available during the competition to guide participants and answer their questions.

5:15pm At the end of the contest, each participant will present their work to the jury/mentors with a short description explaining their work process and the tools they used.

The jury will then take 30/45 minutes to pick a winner. 3 winners (gold, silver and bronze) will each receive a full commercial license of ZBrush 4R2 (MSRP $699).

 

Judging will be based on:

• Artistic skill and overall design

• Most creative and original interpretation of the theme

• The best use of ZBrush 4R2 tools and features

 

Presentations:

During the contest, the Mentor(s) and other sponsors will make presentations, open to all attendees, explaining some aspects of Game creation, and how they apply the sponsor’s application in their creative workflow.

2:30 pm to 3:30 pm Pixologic ZBrush 4R2 presentation

3:30 pm to 4:30 pm Wacom presentation

5:15 pm to 6:00 pm Presentation of contestants’ work and awards

 

About Marco ‘Splash’ Plouffe

Marco ‘Splash’ Plouffe is a character artist at THQ’s new studio in Montreal.

He found his calling as a character modeler after studying at Campus Ubisoft (Cégep de Matane). As well as working as a beta-tester for Pixologic, helping with promotional art and tutorials, he has taught character modeling at the Collège Inter-Dec.In November 2010, Marco was invited by Pixologic to be a presenter at the Montreal International Games Summit (MIGS) and demonstrate his artistic skills using ZBrush 4 new features. He was also one of the judges and mentors for the MIGS 2010 Pixologic Student Challenge.

Marco will be presenting the latest groundbreaking version of ZBrush 4R2 and mentoring/judging the ZBrush 4R2 Student Game Character Challenge at MIGS 2011, together with his THQ Montreal studio colleagues, David Giraud and Cedric Séaut.
